We tell you how to design a cozy and functional relaxation area in a bathhouse, what to consider when choosing materials and what style is best suited.
A bathhouse is not only a steam room and a modest dressing room. If the area of the site allows it and you like to have a good steam bath and spend time with friends or family without leaving the sauna house, then you can organize a special area for this. In this article we will tell you how to design the interior of a relaxation room in a bathhouse, what to consider and what style to choose.
Let's start with the general principles of design of a relaxation room in a bathhouse.
The functionality of the relaxation room depends on the total area of the bathhouse and the available square meters. Sometimes this is a square footage comparable to an entire apartment, sometimes it's a very small nook where only a two-seater sofa or a couple of armchairs can fit.
If we talk about a full-fledged room, the classic zoning looks like this:
A place for cooking is a whole set with all the necessary equipment or a smaller version of it in the form of a couple of sections for storage, a stove and, for example, a kettle.
Relaxation area - designed in the same way as in a regular living room. A sofa group with a table, sometimes with a TV/projector or fireplace.
The dining group is for tea parties after the bath or large-scale festive feasts where all relatives and friends gather.
Additional zones - their set depends on your lifestyle and, again, the available space. This could be a place to play billiards, a corner with musical instruments, a mini-library, a children's playroom, etc.
Finishing materials are a key point in the design of a bathhouse. They must be moisture-resistant and fireproof, wear-resistant, and environmentally friendly. It is important that no toxic substances are released when the temperature rises. Although the relaxation area is not as hot as the steam room, it is better to avoid paint and varnish coatings and rubber panels.
What will suit:
For walls - decorative stone, porcelain stoneware and tiles, non-woven wallpaper, liquid stone, moisture-resistant plasterboard, lining made of linden, alder, oak, aspen, ash and other natural woods.
For the floor - porcelain stoneware, quartz vinyl, natural or artificial stone, board, laminate of class 33-34.
For the ceiling - lining of any type of wood, PVC tension fabric, wooden panel.
Unless the room is very small, you can combine several finishing materials for a more interesting design. The combination of cold and warm, rough and soft works especially well.
The same requirements apply to furniture as to decoration, so pay special attention to materials. Cheap chipboard and plastic are the worst option. Give preference to wood, stone, metal. For the kitchen area, you can choose veneer and high-quality MDF, since a set of natural wood costs a lot, and the material itself is not so good in the cooking area - only if there is a special protective coating. Upholstered furniture should be comfortable, with washable and durable upholstery and elastic filling. In eco- and Mediterranean style, Provence, wickerwork will look organic.
For convenience, organize a couple of storage systems - not bulky cabinets, they are not needed here, but several shelves, a light rack or a buffet for a beautiful service. If you have a TV, you can choose a cabinet or console for it.
Accessories complement the overall ambience and help create a complete interior. Often it is with their help that stylization is created, and they also add comfort to the rest room. Select decor and textiles taking into account the characteristics of the room, avoid flammable materials. Fabrics must be wear-resistant, washable, and durable.
The decor can be used in different ways. First of all, a standard set of universal accessories: paintings and posters, vases and candlesticks, beautiful serving dishes, mirrors in interesting frames, decorative lamps. Also suitable are things that are associated with country life: bouquets of fresh flowers, carpets in the form of skins, panels made from wood cuts, baskets and boxes, etc.
